Hello; I’m Elizabeth Corse (but also known as “Liz” or “Lizzie”) and I combine passion for sustainability with pragmatism in terms of my approach, as I believe widespread change is best brought about by many smaller contributions rather than the extreme endeavours of a few.

So if you ever hear the word sustainability and sigh, thinking it is:

  • Time-consuming

  • Discombobulating

  • Expensive

with the bonus risk of complete reputation damage should you be associated with greenwashing… then I am the person to help you.

With a background in startups, technology, and climate I help business leaders

  • Skip years of research

  • Understand what they need to know

  • Tap into a curated network of 3000 innovators, climate solutions, and new business practices

  • Make sustainability fun and memorable for all stakeholders

Helping you build an achievable sustainability programme that is right for your workplace, your culture, and your industry

While pressure to change often comes from the bottom, the desire to change comes from the top

Why DisCom?

My two favourite words in the English Language are serendipity and discombobulated.

Serendipity happens when there is room for discussion and community.

As I become more discombobulated by the growing gulf between what science tells us is happening and our collective response, I realised we simply need more of us talk about it. My mission at DisCom is to enable 50,000 conversations in the workplace so that we can enable what business does best: solve big problems.

With little time for leaders and teams to get up to speed with a changing environment and climate, I can help open up a world of solutions and possibilities that even the busiest leaders will want to hear about.

Discovering a world of innovation

Growing up in the 90s, I was aware of climate change but it was a very distant thing. The ozone layer was the more immediate problem of the day and that’s nearly been fixed.

Then, one rather dreary Friday, in December 2015, I was at home with my 15-month-old and reading the news about whether a global agreement would be reached to stop global temperatures rising.

As a new parent, my time-horizons had shifted dramatically with the arrival of my son. I became alarmed at what the science seemed to be suggesting. Surely if things were that bad, we’d all be reading about it, learning about it, talking about it?

So I decided to take immediate action. I upped my recycling and signed up to Milk&More…

Unknown to me at the time, that day was the start of a very gradual journey of discovery, one that would eventually see me work in the field as I started to reevaluate my metrics for personal success and the things I took for granted, like clean air, water and food.

Climate was not in my plans…

Time to talk about it

Nine years on, and inspired by the work of climate scientist Katharine Hayhoe, and green entrepreneur Juliet Davenport, I found my climate ikigai - to engage with business leaders by kickstarting more climate conversations in the workplace, without the judgement and overwhelm that can often come with the sustainability community.

I remember what it felt like 9 years ago to learn about this for the first time. Business leaders do not have 9 years to catch up which is why I help business leaders skip the research to understand the short-term, medium-term and long-term risks of a changing climate on their business. The aim is to bring excitement, energy, and opportunity to those business leaders looking to take climate action but to guide them on what is right for them, their culture and their goals.

Through tailored advice, stakeholder engagement, and recommendations to trusted solutions, businesses can move beyond symbolic tree planting initiatives and stand out with responsible business practices that are a winning strategic opportunity to future-proof their business.
